Butterfly World, Coombs is happy to be back in action for the 2018 season. The beginning of March saw unseasonably cool weather on Vancouver Island, and this caused us to have to move our opening day by a week. Butterflies are very active during sunny periods and quieter when its cooler and darker, and so, we faced challenges in our emerging area - as we attempted to get prepared for this years visitors. Our initial few days were cloudier, and the pupas were still working on emerging, so we added a lively element by offering lady bugs for visitors to release into the greenhouse. The skies have since cleared, and we've now received and emerged two and a half shipments of pupas from the Philippines and Costa Rica - which means that the greenhouse is bursting with excitement. Samson and Sheba our resident Tortoises seem to be enjoying the attention from visitors as well as the warm greenhouse along with our resident reptiles and Koi.
